Environmental Remediation Work Completed at PSE&G Hoboken Site
PSE&G successfully completed its remedial action (RA) for soils at the former Hoboken Gas Works site, which is bordered on the north by 13th Street, on the south by 12th Street, on the east by Clinton Street and on the west by Grand Street.
Site work was initiated by PSE&G in July 2013 and completed in January 2015.
PSE&G performed these activities in accordance with the previously prepared Remedial Action Workplan to specifically address the Site’s soil contamination that resulted from operations of the former manufactured gas plant, known as the Hoboken Gas Works. Following removal of the impacted soil, the excavation was backfilled with clean fill and the project area was restored with a clean fill cap and covered by gravel.
The work was completed in accordance with the guidance and protocols prescribed by the NJDEP, as well as the applicable municipal codes of the City of Hoboken. The implementation of the RA was overseen by the site’s New Jersey Licensed Site Remediation Professional.
Please note that PSE&G is not the property owner and will have no role in its future development and use. We expect the property owner to take back control of the property on Tuesday, February 17, 2015.
We would like to thank the municipal administration and local governmental agencies and departments including the board of education and the housing authority and the Hudson Regional Health Commission, and all our neighbors for your assistance, support, cooperation and patience throughout the duration of this project.
